No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky is perhaps one of the most anticipated indie titles in years. Hello Games are offering us a universe of exploration, a universe that even they themselves don't fully understand. With light years of planets and galaxies to visit, we sure hope that No Man's Sky lives up to the expectations that players have thrust upon it.
Procedural generation may seem like it offers us a series of unending possibilities, though of course Sean Murray and his team have to ensure that it exists within certain boundaries. Procedural generation could take us to some very strange places, therefore the vision of the team is paramount when it comes to transforming No Man's Sky from a series of random creations into art.

No Man's Sky - Procedurally Generated Players

As we're aware No Man's Sky will have procedurally generated planets, wildlife, plant-life and even music. However, there's one aspect of the game that they haven't given us many details about; ourselves. What do we look like? Are we all the same? Sean Murray has stated that we'll only know what we look like when someone else comes over and stares at us.
If procedural generation ventures beyond what our ships look like, then we ourselves could in fact be randomly created, rather than having a character creation tool in place. Could there be alien races that we could play as? Are we all just variations of humans? Or is it actually just our suits that are randomly generated? Perhaps our faces won't be visible.

This means that when we all get out there into the universe, we had all better be ready to send one another screenshots of what we look like! I seriously hope that a great community grows around this game on the PS4 and PC (and maybe even the XBOX One). I'm sure it'll be a rarity that we stumble upon a fellow traveller, but let's hope that those encounters can be meaningful and fulfilling.
